2026 Eurocup Series - #6 Aarhus First Day

Four races were completed on the opening day of the EuroCup in Aarhus, under extremely shifty and unstable wind conditions across the race area. One race was abandoned midway due to a significant wind shift that compromised fairness on the course.

The day initially began with near-perfect sailing conditions, but the breeze quickly became stronger and increasingly unpredictable than forecasted, creating a demanding environment for both sailors and race management.

Racing was held on a single course for two fleets, with approximately 20 volunteers supporting operations on the water. The event also made use of remote-controlled Smartmark buoys, allowing efficient course management despite rapidly changing conditions. Multiple capsizes were recorded throughout the day, reflecting the complexity of the wind patterns across the bay.

Around ten crews had the opportunity to train on venue from Sunday, gaining valuable local knowledge ahead of the opening races.

IRO Peter Lübeck commented:

“Difficult day for everyone because of the shifty winds on the bay of Aarhus. But in my opinion we have been able to do fair races.”
